Design Process
Twigg’s design mission is to make effortless silhouettes that will last and remain current season after season. The design process starts with us thinking about what we truly live in, day after day. What's stylish? What's current? What's comfortable? What are the pieces we reach for the most often? Then, how do we bring that to our customers with the smallest environmental impact? We source the most beautiful fabrics and yarns, that stand the test of time. We source locally, and choose sustainable fabrics whenever possible to bring those designs to life.
Our Fav Fabrics & Yarns
BAMBOO FABRIC
We think Bamboo is the holy grail of sustainable fibres for fabrics. Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of bamboo grass. The Bamboo used to produce fabrics is easily replenished and requires no fertilizers or pesticides. Bamboo is considered one of the most sustainable plants because it grows quickly and does not require chemicals to irrigation, and biodegrades more quickly than oil-based synthetics. Bamboo rayon is made by dissolving pulp bamboo into its cellulose component and then spun into viscose fibres. Clothing made of bamboo rayon rayon typically lasts even longer and holds ifs shape even better than clothing of simple bamboo fibre.
All Twigg tees and tops are made from a bamboo rayon, organic cotton blend, manufactured in Canada, using fabrics sourced exclusively within Canada.
ORGANIC COTTON
Organic cotton is a big step in the right direction. It doesn’t allow the use of genetically modified seeds and restricts the use of many chemicals—making it safe for the environment, the farmers, and you! It still uses water and land but it helps sustain the land it is grown on through crop rotations, natural ways of controlling pesticides, and did we mention it is usually rain fed?
LOCALLY SOURCED FABRICS AND YARNS
Sourcing fabrics and yarns as close to the manufacturer is one of the most important ways we reduce our carbon footprint. Our Spring tops and tees are manufactured in Canada, and the fabric is sourced exclusively from Canadian manufacturers. Not only does this mean the goods do not travel far on large trucks and boats, but it also supports flexibility in reduced packaging and single use plastic wrapping.
When it comes to Fall and Winter sweaters we have partnered with a Peruvian factory and use a locally sourced Peruvian yarn to reduce transportation impacts and support local economy. The finished goods still have to travel to get to Canada and the USA, but we reduce as much as possible in our process.
All Twigg sweaters are manufactured in Peru using locally sourced Peruvian yarns, starting with Fall 2019.
REDUCED AND RECYCLED PACKAGING
We always use recycled and recyclable packaging for our goodies and reduce transportation for bulk shipments.
TWIGG IS A SLOW FASHION BRAND
Twigg is a slow fashion brand. We only produce small production runs to create zero waste. If there are any goods left at the end of a season (which let's face it, it happens), we make sure to donate to local charity organizations so literally no unworn Twigg product ever ends up in a landfill.
